Korean Studies Courses are designed to meet the needs of International Exchange Students from more than 140 partner institutions around the globe.

CKS 301 Korean Language in English (3 credits)

This course is an elementary Korean Language course for international students who wants to learn basics of the Korean language. Students who complete the course are expected to pronounce written Korean words, understand basic words and sentences and use expressions of greeting, self-introduction, buying products and other basic daily activities.

CKS 302 Korean Folklore & Ethnography (3 credits)

It deals with the fundamental elements of Korean culture and society. Based on the brief introduction on the development and establishment of Korean cultural characteristics, a variety of topics will be covered including socio-cultural changes, arts, dram and film, traditions, business culture and others. Class will be divided into small groups of International students and Chung-Ang University students for discussion on various topics and group projects and presentations.

CKS 303 Exploring Korea through Films (3 credits)

Many of famous Korean film directors and drama producers are Chung-Ang University Graduates. As the center of the recent "Korean waves", Chung-Ang University has rich resources of famous and popular Korean films and dramas. Through this unique course, international students have the opportunities to see the various Korean cultural aspects visually and discuss topics picked up from selected films and dramas of several decades.

CKS 304 Korea and Northeast Asian Economics : A comparative Study (3 credits)

The purpose of this course is to give the basic knowledge to students on the following areas.
1. Basic history of Korean economic development
2. Korean economic structure and Korean government economic policy
3. Relations between Korean government and companies
4. Some case studies on the business strategies of conglomerates.
Students are expected to participate in class discussions as well as to read the materials related to the subject.

CKS 305 Korean History & Culture in Global Age (3 credits)

This course deals with Korean history in context of its relations with other Asian countries, especially China and Japan. Many foreigners often have wrong ideas that Korea has been just within the traditional sphere of Chinese civilization as part of its culture. However, Korea has had very distinctive culture, history, and political and social structures. Comparative study of Korean history will help students to understand the influence Korea has given and received to and from neighboring Asian countries as well as its distinctive features of history, culture and politics which are markedly different from those of neighboring Asian countries.

CKS 306 Korean Culture in English (2 credits)

For the first step, students will talk about Korean culture, custom in general, the way of living, and psychology of the people. They will have a better understanding about the people and the country and have opportunity to share their own culture. This class is designed to help students to appreciate the differences among different culture.  For the second setp, Students will talk about the current issues of Korea, culture, custom in general, the way of living, and psychology of the people more in detail from the first semester. They will have opportunity to share their own culture and appreciate the differences among different culture

CKS 311 Experiencing Korean Performing Arts with Field Trips (2 credits)

By directly delving into the depth of valley of human life drama, students experience fundamental foundation of drama arts and further gain the understanding of how emotional space can be blended into a drama. Furthermore, students get opportunity to participate and appreciate the space of history, culture, tradition, folklore, and folk tale. The contents of these experiences would be attained through on field lecture, on field interviews, personal sketches, data collection, and field performances.

CKS 312 Making Thirty Seconds Short Films (2 credits)

Study on the various works of Korean short films and hands-on experience in the production of them.
